Pastoral Team

Bruce Persenaire, Interim Pastor

Following the retirement of Pastor Larry Fryling in June 2021, the leadership of Christ’s Community Church elected to hire Reverend Bruce Persenaire to help the church transition between the beloved Pastor Fryling and the next senior pastor. A pastoral search is currently underway for the next senior pastor at Christ’s Community Church.

Reverend Bruce Persenaire

Reverend Bruce grew up in Chicago Illinois. He is the oldest of five children. He and his recently deceased wife, Joyce, (see below) married in 1976, and they had three children together, Meghann, Rachel, and Joel. Bruce has 5 grandchildren.  Bruce graduated from Calvin College in 1977 with a BA degree majoring in Religion and Theology and a minor in US History.  He then graduated from Calvin Seminary in 1981 with a Masters of Divinity degree.

Pastor Bruce has served as senior pastor in two churches.  His first senior pastoral role was in Ellsworth, Michigan, where he served from 1982 to 1986.   His second church was in Escalon, California, where he served for 29 years.  In 2015, Pastor Bruce felt the Lord calling him to a new kind of ministry.  He enrolled in the courses that would equip him to do transitional ministry, which is what he is doing now at Christ’s Community Church.  He served his first transitional ministry assignment in Stephenville, Texas, then served in Allendale, MI, Drenthe, MI, and Zuni, NM.

The passing of Bruce’s wife Joyce…words from Pastor Bruce.

“While serving in Zuni, my wife Joyce learned that she had cancer.  We left our work there to go back to our home in California to look for treatment.  It soon became obvious that her cancer was in an advanced stage and two months after her diagnosis she passed away the day after Easter in 2020.  For the next four months I busied myself in our small walnut orchard.  In September I felt the Lord leading me back to Zuni to see if I could still “do” this work.  Those next 8 months proved to be both trying, emotionally, and rewarding spiritually.”

After the passing of Bruce’s wife, he endured through his grieving and continued in his ministry work, and was recommended to Christ’s Community Church by Pastor Fryling. The church leadership watched his sermon messages, interviewed him, and eventually hired him to help the church transition through a challenging period; during the COVID pandemic, with reduced in-person attendance yet increased on-line video attendance, and following the retirement of Pastor Fryling. Pastor Bruce is doing a fantastic job of helping the church move forward into a new time of leadership and direction, with the Lord’s leading.

Sue Kuipers – Associate Pastor

Pastor Sue is our Pastor of Youth and Community Outreach.  She oversees the youth program for students in Jr. High and High School. Pastor Sue also serves as a Law Enforcement Chaplain for several East Bay law enforcement agencies and the West Coast Post Trauma Retreat Center for first responders.

In addition, she, along with our deacons, works with a number of public and faith-based social service agencies to provide assistance to people within our church and the San Francisco East Bay community.

Sue has two adult children who, along with their families, also attend our church. Her favorite activities include camping, geocaching, and spending time with her grandchildren (not necessarily in that order).

Timothy Jameson (Tim) – Worship Leader and Director of Music

Tim Jameson is the worship leader and music director at CCC. He brings with him a love of leading people in worship of our great God through contemporary Christian music and the many beloved traditional hymns.  He plays piano, keyboard, acoustic and electric guitars. Tim oversees the Sunday morning worship music, drama, children’s and adult musicals. Besides being a worship director, Tim is also a Doctor of Chiropractic, practicing in Castro Valley and also owns a stained glass business, Jameson Glass Design.

Tim is married for 31 years to wife Laurie and has two children, Jillian who is 27 and is a performing musical theater artist on national Broadway tours, and Paul who is 22 who is married and living with his wife in Arizona.

In addition to music, his career in chiropractic, and his glass business, Tim is fluent in Spanish and sponsors families in Colombia, Honduras, and El Salvador and also has a sponsored young adult in Ethiopia.

Leslie Kent – Administrator

Leslie Kent is the Administrator at CCC.  She was born in Castro Valley, CA and has lived in Hayward all of her life.  Her husband of 32 years is John, and they have a daughter, Angela, 32, and a son, Christopher, 30.

She started working at CCC in 1998 as the Ministry assistant, and eventually the job of CCC Bookkeeper was added to her job description.  She enjoys working with the pastoral team here and continues to be encouraged by the support of the CCC family.

Leslie’s favorite times are with family and friends.  She loves Women’s Bible study, beach time, camping, walking with her dogs, reading magazines and fiction books, as well as serving on the CCC Women’s Ministry, and helping behind the scenes in other areas of CCC’s activities and events.   As God continues to bless her life abundantly, her desire is to share those blessings and His love with others.

Larry M. Fryling – Senior Pastor (Retired)

Pastor Fryling retired from active ministry at Christ’s Community Church in June 2021.

Larry was born in Alabama, raised in Michigan and have served churches in Nebraska, Michigan and California. He has been CCC’s senior pastor for 26 years. His goal in teaching and preaching is to make the message of the Bible and Jesus understandable and practical.

He and his wife Arlene have six children and eight grandchildren. They have been foster-parents for the county, caring for 35 infants over the years, two of which they happily adopted. They have hosted international students in their home for several years. For fun, they like to camp, especially in California’s mountains, near a waterfall, if possible.
